Getting started

From installer to printed sheet in about five minutes.

1. Install

Download the installer from the download page and run it. On a newly released version, Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" box — this happens with any new installer until Microsoft has seen enough copies of it. Click More info, then Run anyway.

2. Enter your licence key

Open the app. It asks for the key from your confirmation email. The box formats it as you type, so you can ignore the dashes.

"That key looks mistyped" means exactly that — the key is checked mathematically before it is sent anywhere. The usual culprits are the letter I versus the digit 1, and the letter O versus zero. The app corrects both automatically, so re-read the characters either side.

3. Bring in some products

Go to Import and choose your spreadsheet. If you do not have one handy, the samples folder inside the installation directory has eleven ready-made files for different trades — aquarium, pharmacy, bakery, hardware and so on.

Walk through the five steps. The only one that needs thought is Map columns, and even then it has usually guessed correctly. Full guide to importing →

4. Design a label

Go to Designer. Set your label size on the right — or pick a preset — then add elements from the toolbar.

The one idea that matters: anything you type in square brackets is replaced with that product’s value. So a text element containing:

[Product Name]
$[Price]

prints a different name and price on every label, from the data you just imported. Everything else prints literally.

5. Print

Go to Products, tick the ones you want, and click Send to print. Then on the Print tab choose your printer, set how many copies of each label you need, and click Preview first — it is worth it the first time you use a new template.

Save yourself the work next time

Press Ctrl+S to save your design as a project. Next week, open it, select different products, and print. The design work is done once.
