Designing a label

Set the label size first

With nothing selected, the right-hand panel shows label setup. Either pick a preset or type exact dimensions in millimetres. Then set how many fit across and down your sheet.

If you are using bought label stock, the dimensions are usually printed on the box. Getting these right first saves redoing the layout later.

Adding elements

Use the toolbar, or the keyboard:

TText
RRectangle — useful as a coloured banner behind text
BBarcode
IImage or logo

Making labels change per product

This is the whole trick. Put a column name in square brackets and it is replaced with that product’s value:

[Product Name] → Neon Tetra
$[Price] → $4.50
SKU: [SKU] → SKU: AQ-0001
[Brand] · [Category] → AquaWorld · Freshwater Fish

Text outside the brackets prints exactly as written. The inspector shows a list of the fields available in your data — click one to insert it.

Moving things accurately

DragMove. It snaps to edges, centres and other elements.
Alt + dragIgnore snapping, for fine placement.
Arrow keysNudge 0.5 mm.
Shift + arrowsNudge 5 mm.
Drag a cornerResize. Hold Shift to keep the proportions.
Ctrl+ZUndo. There is a full history.

Select several elements — drag a box around them, or Shift-click — and the align buttons will line them up or space them evenly.

Layers

The left panel lists everything on the label, topmost first. Click to select, use the eye to hide something while you work, and the padlock to stop yourself moving a background you have already positioned.

Saving your work

Ctrl+S saves a project — the design plus which data it is bound to. Open it again from the Projects tab.

Coming from Azuri Label

Import .albl… opens your existing Azuri templates with their sizes, layouts and data bindings intact, so you do not have to rebuild a library you already have.

Things worth knowing

  • A warning appears if an element runs past the label edge — it will be clipped when printed.
  • Text below about 5 pt is rarely legible on thermal stock.
  • Turn off Include when printing to keep a guide on screen that never prints.
